I see and speak with hundreds of small business owners and aspiring business owners each year and based on this and my own experience, I have created a simple model to help you scale and grow your business in 2020.
This simple model is derived from our knowledge and experience, so feel free to get in touch if you'd like to know more.
By using this SMB Growth Formula, we managed to scale our start-up business (our agency) to six figures within our first full calendar year of trade.
So, what does it take to scale to over six figures in a short period of time?
In my experience, it takes consistent work at these three pillars:
Structure- Structure is the foundation of any business and includes knowing your why, refining your product & service, knowing your niche, planning, financial direction, support, an understanding of cash flow and a clear marketing direction.
Content- In our current business climate, we must produce content. So many people I speak with a trying to grow a business and they are producing 3 pieces of content a week. We are in a saturated market, the squeaky wheel gets the oil and people must know you exist.
How do people know you exist?
By putting out content in the form of social media posts, blog writing, podcasting, YouTube video creating, emailing, speaking and consistently showing up and being seen.
You may be the best in the world at what you do, but if no-one know's you exist, how are you going to help or serve anyone? As a benchmark, you must put out at LEAST a piece of content a day, but aim for 3-5.
Commitment- Like anything, if you want to be the best in your field, you must be committed. In order to run a successful small business, you must be committed.
Ditch the 9-5 thought process and embrace the lifestyle of a successful small business owner.
How's that look?
It's being committed to your mission, to be the best in your field and grow your business. If you put in a mediocre effort, expect a less than mediocre result.
These three pillars are truly the key to running a successful business and scaling to knew heights. The decision you have to make is, do you want to do the work?
You'll see a diagram of this model. If you have got this far, I encourage you to print it off, stick it on your fridge and each and every day in 2020, look at it and implement.
Learn from your attempts, celebrate the wins and keep showing up so people know you exist.
